Qualcomm Unveils Wi-Fi 7 Platform With Multi-Link Mesh Networking: All You Need To Know

On Tuesday, Qualcomm introduced its Wi-Fi 7 Immersive Home Platform, specifically crafted for home mesh Wi-Fi networking systems. The platform introduces two novel processors utilizing the 5GHz and 6GHz frequency bands, supporting 240MHz and 320MHz channels, respectively. These specifications align with the spectrum used by Wi-Fi 7-enabled devices, boasting speeds of up to 5.8GBps, as per the company’s claims. Accompanying this technology is the Multi-Link Mesh feature, facilitating dynamic spectrum and channel switching.

As revealed in an official Qualcomm blog post, the Wi-Fi 7 Immersive Home Platform adopts a modular chipset architecture, delivering a total system capacity exceeding 20GBps. Qualcomm asserts that this processor technology has been meticulously engineered to enhance collaboration, telepresence, AR/VR, and immersive gaming experiences in both present and future homes. Sampling of the technology is currently underway, with commercial sales anticipated to commence in the latter half of 2023.

Nick Kucharewski, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Wireless Infrastructure and Networking at Qualcomm Technologies, emphasized the development of the Qualcomm Immersive Home Platform to provide high-performance connectivity in a cost-effective, compact form factor, showcasing the latest advancements in home networking.

Key to the Wi-Fi 7 Immersive Home Platform is its proprietary Multi-Link Mesh system, which intelligently selects, aggregates, or alternates links across the 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz unlicensed spectrum bands based on network conditions, device capabilities, and home network topology. Qualcomm contends that this platform can achieve a 75 percent reduction in real-time latency in congested environments compared to Wi-Fi 6.

The system employs Wi-Fi 7 technology within the 5 GHz spectrum, featuring 240 MHz channels and 4K QAM modulation, contributing to an 80 percent higher capacity than Wi-Fi 6. As highlighted earlier, the platform is claimed to deliver a peak speed of 5.8GBps to a single connected device.
